Numerical Study of Oil-water Separation in Inline Axial Hydrocyclone

The fluid mixture hydrocyclone is an excellent tool for downhole oil/water separation (DOWS) high water cut. In the present work flow through inline axial inlet investigated computationally using ANSYS-FLUENT-19 software. three dimensional continuity and momentum equations with SST k-omega turbulence model are used to simulate strongly swirling, turbulent flow. Oil/water two phase treated as working fluid, considered primary oil secondary phase. volume fraction this 0.25 split 0.3 different rates of (14, 28, 56) m3/hr corresponding Reynold's number range (1.6 6.6)*104. pressure velocity fields were analyzed in whole core recirculation. results helpful predict motion inside cyclone estimate process. indicates that purity at exit was 90%, while obtained 38%.
